China has achieved a leading position in global artificial intelligence development, as highlighted during the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference. According to a Xinhua report, China has released 1,509 large AI models to date, the highest number among the 3,755 models released worldwide. The global AI enterprise count has surpassed 35,000, with over 5,100 based in China. Furthermore, there are more than 271 AI unicorn enterprises globally, and China accounts for 71 of them, representing 26% of the total, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications. China also hosts over 300 listed AI enterprises, which generate approximately 70% of the domestic AI industry's total revenue. The innovation domains of AI unicorns are diverse, with the top five sectors being large models, autonomous driving, intelligent robotics, commercial AI applications, and intelligent computing chips. Yu Xiaohui, president of the China Academy of Information and Communications, noted that China's AI industry is expanding rapidly through new technologies, applications, and models, acting as a key driver for high-quality economic growth. Additionally, authorities have initiated research into methodologies for measuring the AI industry's market size, have preliminarily established a corresponding indicator framework, and have begun standardization efforts with relevant standards formally authorized for projects.
